Agni Rising

Rig Veda, 10th Mandala, Anuvāka I, Sūkta 1, Stanzas 1 and 2

"The great fire from the beginning of the dawn has sprung aloft, and issuing forth from the darkness has come with radiance.  Agni, the bright-bodied, as soon as born, fills all dwellings with shining light.

When born, you, O Agni, are the embryo of heaven and earth, beautiful, borne about in the plants; variegated, infantine, you disperse the nocturnal glooms; you issue roaring loudly from the maternal (sources). "
